Don’t give yourself resolutions this year as the notion is that resolutions are not kept past march, when you set goals you can spread what you need to do to a monthly schedule. This will help achieve your set goals.

Having a plan for anything will further help you achieve said goals. Take the time to write them where you can reference them on a monthly basis. Don’t let external factors deter you from your focus and by having a notebook that you can reference will keep your goals in the back of your sub-conscious and you’ll make decisions that will reflect the effort needed to make your goals and dreams be realized.

A Few Things I like About Blogging

Having a Clue

Having a Blog forces me to keep in tune with the design/affiliated marketing industry. News, new trends, opinions, and research are all daily parts of my life when I’m actively blogging. It’s beneficial to stay in the know so I can translate that to my readers. These past few months, I’ve liked keeping up with technology news — but I as a result lost the touch with the design industry. I am still trying to figure out my time management between work, research and play.

Having a Drive

I love what I do. I never get tired of designing, and I love every aspect of my 9-5 job. But, am I really helping anyone yet? Am I making the world a better place? Not really but soon enough

Some advice I can give to new and aspiring designers is in a tiny way for me to share something valuable with the rest of the world. It feels so great when I’m able to keep someone from making mistakes that I made, or give inspire the confidence they need to land the profits they want from a campaign. I’m making a minute difference, and that puts a smile on my face.

Having a Voice

This is why I believe that social media like twitter and Facebook has been so successful. It gives people a voice. Landed a new contract? No need to yell it from the rooftops — just post it on your Facebook wall. Let down in that blockbuster movie you just paid for? No need to call all of your friends. Tweet it.

Blogging is even better than that. I get to voice my opinion, express my thoughts, and vent my frustrations. I have a voice — and I’m able to tell people what I think. Even though what I post about is more professional then personal I still have the opportunity to say what I feel

Keeping a Conversation

Once you have your first post it’s amazing to put something out there (dreams, opinions, guidance, motivation, etc.) and get a response. Your comments and emails represent so much. I have found sometimes if I’ve been having a just plain crappy day — I’ll get an email from someone on the other side of the world about how they benefited from one of my posts. It completely turns the day around.

Also, being a freelance designer/internet marketer, I don’t have the comfort of an office full of design geeks like myself to bounce ideas and questions off of. I mean there’s instant messaging but trying to describe design concepts is a lot hard to do. After I wrote some of my first posts, it was awesome to see that so many of you had similar experiences and could relate. The conversations have to be my favorite part of blogging
